About Curb
My name is Curb Ivanic and I'm somewhat of a "running nerd".
I wasn't born with champion genetics and didn't take up running
until I was in my late twenties. But I fell in love with running
so I studied all I could about running training programs, preparing
for races, improving running technique, sports nutrition and running
injuries.
But I didn't just study running, I applied what I had learned.
I've competed in races from 5K to 67 km, even placing in the top
15 in a couple of 50 km ultramarathons. I know what it feels like
to have a great race but also know the frustration of being sidelined
by a running injury.
Not only have I trained myself, I've trained and assessed over
400 runners and triathletes over the last 10 years. I've tried different
training programs and approaches to figure out what works and what
doesn't to help runners run better and stay injury free.
In addition to my practical experience I have professional and
academic credentials:
- Master's degree is in Exercise Science, specializing in Performance
Enhancement and Injury Prevention. I've read hundreds of studies
related to running and know how to read through the scientific
jargon to determine which studies are relevant and which aren't.
Scientific research is a great tool but you have to know how to
apply it effectively, which I do.
- Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with
the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA).
- Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) with the National Academy
of Sports Medicine (NASM).
- Both organizations are two of the most respected and recognized
institutions in the athletic training fields.
I'm proud of my accomplishments but I'm not trying to impress you.
Rather I'm trying to impress upon you that I'm passionate about
what I do and I've done the homework to back me up.
From this experience I've seen patterns that were common in runners
who got injured.
I've also seen what successful runners do to run well and avoid
running injuries.
Then I combined the practical experience with the research data
to develop programs to help runners of ANY level, whether you're
out in front or a back of the pack runner.
